Wow, this video on Human Computation was definately an eye opener for me. I always wondered what they "captcha" blocks were that I always had to type in when I am on the internet, they sure are irritating and now I know why! Well, at least computers cannot yet break the code!
I did play the Image game, it was fun to guess names of the picture and try to think of what your partner might be thinking of... but I never knew the reason for those games. We all are so addicted to computer games and trying to challenge ourselves that we now are being used for free in the computer market! But if everybody finds out that they really are using our minds to label their pictures do you think they will still do it? I do not know, maybe the numbers will decrease because people will do it out of spite, but maybe it will increase to try and "cheat" the odds. Interesting concept huh?
I really do not have time to play games like Verbosity and ESP... but I guess the computer geeks are sure glad there are people who have nothing better to do with their time... I have enough to do as is, maybe those people that he was referring to in the video need to get a life, I couldn't imagine spending around 15 hours doing that! Well, at least they have a cut off point...
I am sure they will have to keep adding games and playing with our minds to do their free work for them, but for all those people who cannot get off the computer and get a life... congrats! you are really working for free!
